Therapy

You will find that I am warm and direct in my approach. I know the therapy experience can at times seem obscure; as a clinician, I like to explain how I work, and why I work that way. I believe people are deeply impacted by their early life experiences, and I also believe that some people come to therapy feeling that something isn’t quite right, without being able to explain exactly what’s missing, or where to go from here. Check out the types of therapy I offer below, and see which one may be right for you.

  • Individual Depth Therapy

I work individually with teens and adults with a range of presenting issues. Some people know exactly what is wrong, and some people just know that they could be feeling better. With me, therapy is a collaborative approach where we work together to discover what has until now been hidden, and to determine what that means for living a richer life.

The best way to get a sense of my style is to book a free 15 minute consultation.

  • Ecotherapy Groups

Engagement with nature has proven positive effects on mental and physical health including decreased symptoms of depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and trauma, and an increased sense of connectedness and wellbeing. Join me in one of my upcoming ecotherapy groups where we merge the reflectiveness and skillbuilding experiences of therapy with a deepening connection to the natural world. All groups are limited to a maximum of 12 people and meet among the trees in Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park in Oakland. Upcoming groups include managing and healing from chronic pain, improving sleep, and LGBTQ+ identity.

If you are interested in joining an upcoming group, send me a message and I will email you when enrollment opens.

  • EMDR

Eye Motion Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy modality used predominantly in the treatment of trauma, although it has proven efficacy with a range of difficulties including anxiety and depression, phobias, and insomnia. Traumatic experiences are such that the brain becomes overwhelmed, and is therefore unable to fully process and store information. In this way, traumatic experiences remain stuck, in a sense, continuing to impact a person physiologically and emotionally, as if the traumatic experience were still happening to some degree in the present. EMDR utilizes the brain’s natural capacity for healing to reprocess traumatic experiences and store them where they belong, in the past. This is done through stimulation of the two hemispheres of the brain, using methods such as eye movements.

Reach out for a free 15 minute consultation if you are interested in learning more about whether EMDR may be beneficial to you.

  • Pain Reprocessing Therapy

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is an effective tool for reducing the experience of chronic pain. Pain is a sensation that protects us from danger, however, there are physical and emotional experiences that can turn the dial up on our nervous system, such that we experience more pain than is necessary to keep us safe. Through psychoeducation about the mechanisms of pain and exercises that will help your nervous system turn the dial back down, I can help you reduce or eliminate your pain, and get back to the things you love.

Send me a message for a free 15 minute consultation to find out whether I might be a good fit for you.
